Sometimes it's amazing how easy minorities without a state are helplessly exposed to political shenanigans. These pictures I made in early 1998 in Turkey. At that time, the Turkish military and especially Turkish mercenaries had literally burned 30,000 small Kurdish settlements to the ground. This "ethnic cleansing" by an army which is a NATO member ended only after the arrest of the dubious Kurdish leader Öcalan. Sure, his strange ideas of a Kurdish State never had a chance because of all rival power demands of the respective Kurdish leaders in other regions.
As the winner for autonomy maybe "king" Barzarni could be considered, namely because he succeeded to hire Peter Galbraith, former US ambassador to Croatia, as his highly paid Lobbyist for the creation of the KRG (Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq). Today, when Iraqi Peshmerga from Erbil are send to fight against the confused headed followers of the "Caliph" of ISIL in Syria, it inevitably creates the impression that Turkey deliberately lets the Kurds again run in an open knife. Erdogan's goal is and always was to overthrow Assad in Syria. He receives seemingly unlimited financial support from the Gulf monarchies. So, this is why any claims for at least a kind of autonomy in all Kurdish areas of Iraq, Turkey and Syria has to stay out of any discussion when it come to the future of the Kurds. Let us not forget the the Kurds are the oldest inhabitants of the region, dating back as long as 10.000 years. It is already today quite clear this policy will inevitably lead to more tension, not to peaceful solutions. CIA scriptwriters are definitely having a ball.If the people in power would recognize this misleading politics for what it is, it would be a first step into the right direction. Unfortunately a lot of stupid people in Washington DC & in Brussels, politicians as well as media folks, believe in their own propaganda and therefore tend to miscalculate in their assessments of policies. This is dangerous as it often has bloody consequences. Comments are closed.
