Out of the lesson learned “Stop genocide early” the alibi for all other “humanitarian” interventions that followed, from Kosovo to Libya, was called R2P (responsibility to protect). All of them were not successful in view of their initial goals but contributed immensely to make the world a much more insecure place.
The remaining question left for me is “Why has Akashi refused Mike Rose’s request to stop the approaching troops from the other side of the Drina”. This was for me the most burning question after we (the team of ARD TV) were sitting at the late evening of July 10 1995 in Zagrebs Chinese Restaurant a few meters away from Akashi listening to the phone calls… Mike Rose was certainly a army version of a person who did what he said and archived with RRF more then all his predecessors. Till there is no answer my lesson learned is another: Yugoslavia was a Guinea pig for all those upcoming wars after. NATO was in a desperate situation and looking for another role after the fall of Berlins wall. Comments are closed.
