![]() No, not since Facebook but since ancient times grotesque faces or frightening designed human-like faces are showing often a mythical creature or a deity Dar. The sculptures name derives from the architectural term “mascaron” – an ornamental face, whose function allegedly is to scare away evil spirits. The intended facial statement varies between jest and allegory. Previously in earlier centuries everything was not so bloody. One upon a time people believed they can chase evil with masks. Under the bridge, "Pont Neuf" you can find a Picture Dictionary of Grotesque Human Expressions who are allegedly scare off the evil. The grimacing parade of 381 grotesque stone heads under the oldest Parisian bridge is hardly something you see every day. The bridge is covered with faces…lots of strange faces. They are each unique and individual. Today I have designed a 100 cm X 200 cm poster with 100 of the most bizarre portraits and printed it out on my new plotter to fight the evil. Its now at the entrance door of the studio. Get in touch if you would like to have a print. and here it goes 100 more faces Comments are closed.
