Playing For The Joy Of Playing
What looks "wild" here is simply playing for the joy of playing. Nothing more. It's clear today that animals have impressive cognitive abilities. Judge for yourself, see the faces at play of these dogs.
It amounts to a Copernican turn! Only about three decades ago, the minds of animals "were not considered a topic worthy of scientific study, and emotions in animals were dismissed as something for romantics. Today science no longer doubt that many animals have impressive cognitive abilities. But might they not simply be highly evolved beings on autopilot, wired for survival and reproduction?
Sure, dogs protect their pack (family). Nothing more. Anyone who doesn't understand that shouldn't have a dog in the first place. I have a 150% bond with my Rottweilers who are supposed to be so "dangerous" to which I can only say: whoever is afraid of self-confident, strong-willed dogs should ignore them and not provoke them, should not approach me or him in a threatening manner and above all, stop assuming a Macho-like behaviour of a strange would impress a self assured Rottweiler.
No human likes when another human comes running and strokes his head. Why should dogs like that? Teach this to children who with good intentions take a risk that they were not warned about. In islamic countries you often see children throwing stones at dogs and people than are surprised when they bite.
There is a lot to learn when dogs meet each other: they have to adjust to each other. And for this it needs intelligence. How often I hear "oh my dog is good, he does nothing". My Rottie male is luckily a diplomat and not a macho, my Rottie girl is quite dominant and does not like intrusiveness. She has self control and signals her mood very strongly. If she had a reactive problem she would be on a leash.
