Prefect Martin is a typical gentleman of the old school. In a department were unemployment is high and the Front National, FN, has many followers it is not an easy task to make it right for everybody, but the Prefect Didier Martin jovially moved around any controversy: on June 5, 2015 he officially handed over the family book and ID's to recognise French citizenship for 18 foreigners. The "New French" originally come from different nations: from Laos, Cameroon, Tunisia, Czech Republic, Great Britain-, Tunisia and Algeria. Over 400 New citizens were inaugurated in 2014 in the Department of Gard.
